Hermes Agent

Nous Research's personal agent, with its dashboard credentials generated for you.

Updated

Hermes Agent is Nous Research's personal agent: one gateway that answers on several channels, with a memory of its own and a dashboard to run it from. Cloud creates it from the catalogue with its storage and its dashboard credentials in place. Its own documentation is at hermes-agent.nousresearch.com, external link.

The image is pinned to a dated release, because the project publishes no tag that follows a major version.

Set it up

  1. Create it

On a project, press Add a service, then Create on Hermes Agent under Services. Paste an OpenRouter key if you have one: the form notes that "The agent answers nothing without one", and you can add it later. Press Create service.

  2. Deploy

Press Deploy. When the deployment is Done, Cloud gives the service an address under the platform domain if it has no domain yet.

  3. Sign in to the dashboard

Open the service's Environment section, press Edit to read the values, copy the dashboard credentials Cloud generated, and press Cancel. Once the domain reads HTTPS active, press Visit and sign in with them.

Dashboard credentials

Cloud generates the dashboard's login for every Hermes Agent service and saves both halves in its environment, side by side:

VariableValue
HERMES_DASHBOARD_BASIC_AUTH_USERNAMEcahaves
HERMES_DASHBOARD_BASIC_AUTH_PASSWORD24 random letters and digits, generated for this service

Cloud also generates API_SERVER_KEY, 32 random letters and digits, for the agent's API server.

Why it has a start command

The image's own command opens an interactive command line, which ends as soon as nothing is typed at it, so the container would exit and be started again in a loop. Cloud starts the image's supervisor instead, which runs the dashboard:

Start commandBash
/opt/hermes/docker/entrypoint-dispatch.sh sleep infinity

The Command card on the service's Overview shows it, and it can be changed there like any start command.

Its environment

To add or replace the OpenRouter key later, set OPENROUTER_API_KEY on the Environment section and save. A running service is restarted with it. Environment variables covers saving.

Its data

The agent keeps its state under /opt/data, on the State volume Cloud attaches when the service is created, so it survives deploys. The automatic backup of that volume is an archive, taken while the agent is stopped; Backups covers what an archive can and cannot do today.
